WINCHESTER, Va. — It was a tale of two halves as Frostburg State used a 16-5 run in the opening five minutes of the second half to come from a 38-36 deficit in the first half to defeat Shenandoah 80-69 Monday evening.
Senior guard Christian Jackson led the Bobcats with 27 points. It was his fouth-straight game as the team’s leading scorer.
The Bobcats’ (2-2) opening second-half run was highlighted by eight points from Jackson and senior DeSean Antoine capped it with his second three of the half at 14:56 to give FSU a 52-43 lead.
With 10:25 left, Shenandoah’s Jared Carithers converted a layup to pull the Hornets (2-3) to within five, 58-53, but the Bobcats went on a 13-4 run to increase their lead to 70-57 with 5:23 left.
The Bobcats led by as much as 14 in the first half, but the Hornets chipped away going on a 13-3 run to tie the game at 33 with 2:23 to play in the first half. Sharif Almulla hit two free throws at 1:52, giving Shenandoah its first lead, 35-33. Jackson pulled FSU to within one, 37-36, with a jumper but Almulla hit another free throw to give the Hornets a 38-36 halftime lead. He finished with 17 points.
Jackson went 8 of 19 from the floor and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Coker posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Antoine chipped in 14 points while handing out four assists and senior Micah Steinmiller had 10 points.
Frostburg State travels to Catholic in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
