HAGERSTOWN — Hunter Marrale scored 19 points to lead Bishop Walsh to a 58-51 win over St. Mary’s Ryken in the championship game of the St. Maria Goretti Tournament on Saturday.
For the second night in a row, the Spartans out-rebounded a bigger squad. Bishop Walsh also got off to a hot start for the second straight game, scoring 24 points in the first quarter.
St. Mary’s Ryken cut the lead from 11 at the end of the first to 32-27 at halftime.
The teams went back-and-forth in the third as Walsh held on to a four-point advantage entering the fourth.
Defense and free throw shooting down the stretch helped BW seal the win.
Liam Rhodes, named tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, had 15 points and five assists. Quincy Redmon had two points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals and earned all-tournament honors, along with Marrale.
Bishop Walsh (2-0) will play in the Trinity Tip-off Classic on Friday and Saturday in Darlington, S.C.
