CRESAPTOWN — Sara Leydig scored 19 points on her way to earning tournament MVP honors as Hope for Hyndman defeated Faith, 44-35, in the Calvary Christian Academy Christmas Tournament championship game Saturday afternoon.
Faith applied a lot of pressure throughout, stifling Hyndman in the early going. Faith led 8-5 after one, but Hyndman responded with a 13-4 second quarter to lead 18-12 at the break.
Hyndman methodically added to its lead in the second half against a young Faith team starting three freshmen. The Hornets still led by six after three but extended the lead to double-digits in the fourth before going on to win by nine.
Leydig also grabbed 10 rebounds. Karly Willison added 11 points.
Ally Romine led Faith with 13.
“Faith has a very good team,” said Hyndman head coach John Miller. “They’re very young but they never quit. I think they’re going to go on to have a very good season.
“I felt honored to be invited. Calvary’s staff put together a great tournament and provided an enriching, competitive environment. I look forward to going back again next year.”
Hyndman (4-1) plays at Chestnut Ridge Jan. 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
