Calvary comeback beats BW

CRESAPTOWN — Calvary Christian Academy limited Bishop Walsh to only seven second-half points to come from behind to defeat the Spartans 38-31 in the consolation game of the Calvary Christian Christmas Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Bishop Walsh used a 20-point second quarter to erase a 10-4 deficit at the end of the first quarter to lead the Eagles at halftime, 24-17.

“I’m usually fairly reserved at halftime,” said Calvary head coach Rusty Kitzmiller, “but I let them have it. I told them ‘Bishop Walsh was out-hustling us, out-playing us and that they wanted it more than we did.’ It must have got through, because they came out and played great defense in the third quarter and it continued in the fourth.”

The Eagles put up 16 third-quarter points while holding BW to four.

Savannah Reed, who scored eight points in the third, led the Eagles with 15 points and Karly Hipsley had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also had four steals. Payton Emerick, who had seven points, pulled down nine rebounds as did Reed.

Nicole Ross led the Spartans with 10 points.

Hope for Hyndman defeated  Faith Christian Academy 44-35 in the championship game.

Calvary Christian improves to 6-2 and plays New Life in Frederick Jan. 4. Bishop Walsh drops to 0-8 and will participate in the Altoona Holiday Tournament December 27-29.
