COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Over 10,000 student-athletes suited up to play NJCAA baseball this season, which are the most athletes to participate in any sport in the history of the NJCAA.
Of the 10,305 student-athletes that suited up this year on 398 baseball teams (DI, II, & III), only 126 earned NJCAA All-America honors.
Potomac State shortstop Gary Williams was named as a NJCAA First Team All-American. The Chesapeake, Va., native was among the top hitters in the country most of the season. The sophomore banged out 82 hits including 17 doubles, three triples and three home runs. He scored 50 runs while driving in 50 runs as well and he finished the season at a .448 clip while his on-base percentage was .493.
Outfielder Dominick Hayes was named as an honorable mention member. Hayes hit .451 with 79 hits, 21 doubles, and 62 runs batted in.
This year's selections mark the eighth straight season that Potomac State has had a member of the NJCAA All-American team and the 12th player named All-American since 2000.
