ELKINS, W.Va. — Heath Broughton hit a home run and a pair of singles and Brennan Dettinger added a double and three singles to power Elkins to a 12-4 win over Grantsville in American Legion baseball Sunday evening.
Broughton’s three-run homer highlighted a six-run fourth inning that put Elkins up 10-0.
Corey Helbig hit a two-run homer in the seventh and an RBI single in the ninth for Grantsville. Cody Humberson and Logan Stewart hit two singles, Aaron Broadwater had an RBI double and Steven Holtschneider also had a double.
Thursday night, Grantsville lost a slugfest at Romney, 10-7. The teams combined for 33 hits, with Grantsville getting 19.
Josh Crawford and Shane Ennis had RBI doubles in the first inning to give Romney a quick 2-0 lead. Crawford also hit a solo homer, Aaron Fox had two singles and an RBI, Josh Moreland doubled and Trevor Largent added two singles.
Cody Humberson had five singles and two RBIs to lead Grantsville. Logan Stewart had four singles and an RBI, Scott Cooper three singles and an RBI, Patrick Sines three singles and Corey Helbig two singles and an RBI.
Grantsville (7-11) hosts Fort Cumberland today at 5:30 at Garrett College in the opening game of the second half of the Mountain District season.
