Trojans trounced in opener

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Allegany College of Maryland gave up 12 hits, allowed 12 walks and committed five errors in dropping its opener 18-7 to Lenoir Friday in the Trojans’ opener..

Chastin Radford and Sam Remick each hit doubles for the Lancers who jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings. Troy Jones started with four shutout innings on the mound. He gave way to Tyler Kenney and Travis Long. The three combined to give up five runs in the fifth. Lenoir countered with an 8-run sixth to take a commanding 16-5 advantage.

The Trojans went through six pitchers, starting with Austin Barefoot, who didn’t make it out of the third.

Catcher Blayne McGuirk launched a solo homer in the fifth for Allegany, Reynaldo Adames had two hits and three RBIs and Cody Malone added two hits and two runs scored. Eli Souders also had two hits.

Allegany (0-1) plays at Lenoir (4-0) again today in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.

 

Bobcats split two games with Roanoke

SALEM, Va. — Frostburg State earned a 3-0 shutout victory over Roanoke in the first game of a season-opening twinbill with the Maroons, Friday.

The Bobcats lost the second game 1-0 to split the doubleheader.

The Bobcats (1-1) plated solo runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings to slowly distance themselves from the host Maroons (2-3). Junior starting pitcher Austin Poretz threw all 7.0 innings and struckout four, while scattering just three hits for the victory.

In the second contest, Roanoke squeaked out a 1-0 victory in cold and rainy conditions. The Maroons scored in the bottom of the sixth on a single to center field.

Frostburg State will face Roanoke in a single nine-inning contest tomorrow at noon.
