BALTIMORE — Landon Powell homered in Oakland’s four-run fourth inning, and the Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 on Wednesday.
Cliff Pennington and Scott Hairston had three hits apiece for the last-place A’s, who has captured three successive series.
Aubrey Huff homered and Nick Markakis had three hits for the Orioles, who lost the season series to Oakland 5-1.
Held to four hits over five innings by Mazzaro, the Orioles closed to 4-3 in the fifth. Huff hit a two-run homer before Luke Scott doubled and scored on an error by Rajai Davis, who misplayed a single to center by Matt Wieters.
But Wieters was stranded at third, and Baltimore also left a runner at third in the seventh.
Yankees 4, Blue Jays 3
NEW YORK (AP) — Robinson Cano homered and hit a game-ending RBI single in the 11th inning, helping the Yankees finish a homestand with a 4-3 victory over the Blue Jays.
Alex Rodriguez got the winning rally started when he was hit by a pitch from Shawn Camp (1-6) with one out. Rodriguez moved up on Jorge Posada’s single and scored when Cano lined Camp’s first pitch into the gap in right-center.
Chad Gaudin (1-0) worked two scoreless innings to win his debut for the Yankees (71-43), who have won nine of 10 to move a season-best 28 games over .500.
Angels 10, Rays 5
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Gary Matthews Jr. put the Angels ahead with a three-run homer in the sixth, Howie Kendrick added another three-run shot in the seventh, and Los Angeles finished a three-game sweep of the Rays.
Chone Figgins had three hits and scored the first run in a five-run seventh for the Angels, who racked up 24 runs in the series against the defending AL champions Rays, who have won just six times in their last 40 games at Angel Stadium.
Giants 4, Dodgers 2
SAN FRANCISCO — Juan Uribe hit a game-ending two-run homer with one out in the 10th inning and the San Francisco Giants avoided a three-game sweep by the archrival Los Angeles Dodgers with a 4-2 victory Wednesday.
Brian Wilson (4-5) pitched 1 1-3 innings with four strikeouts for the win on a wild day in which the benches cleared and both Giants manager Bruce Bochy and bench coach — and acting manager — Ron Wotus were ejected in separate arguments.
Tim Lincecum pitched into the ninth and had only allowed two hits before Rafael Furcal beat out an infield single. Andre Ethier hit a tying RBI single two batters later.
Mets 6, Diamondbacks 4
PHOENIX (AP) — Cory Sullivan tripled twice and Gary Sheffield had two singles in his return to the lineup, helping the Mets avoid a three-game sweep.
Luis Castillo’s pinch-hit single with two outs off Rauch Jon (2-1) brought in the go-ahead run, then Sullivan tripled to the right-center gap to make it 5-3. A wild pitch by Arizona reliever Daniel Schlereth allowed a run in the ninth.
Rauch and manager A.J. Hinch were thrown out of the game by plate umpire Mike Everitt after the Mets scored twice with two outs in eighth to take the lead.
Pedro Feliciano (5-4) got two outs for the victory as the Mets finished their trip 2-5 in just their fourth win in 14 games. Francisco Rodriguez allowed Josh Whitesell’s second RBI single of the game, with two outs in the ninth, but fanned Miguel Montero for his 25th save.
