Tomlinson’s blast tops Grantsville

From Staff Reports

CUMBERLAND — Chandler Tomlinson belted a two out, two-run home run to cap off a four-run eighth inning that lifted Fort Cumberland Post 13 over Grantsville Post 214, 6-5, in American Leagion baseball action Sunday at Legion Field.

Grantsville scored at least a run in the first four innings to take a 5-0 lead over Fort Cumberland.

Post 13, however, battled back and trailed 5-2 after six innings. In the eighth, Brandon Connelly singled before RBIs by Sean Collette and Scott Rice pulled Fort Cumberland to within one. Tomlinson’s homer proved to be the game winner.

Connelly was Post 13’s leading hitter with four base hits in four appearances. Collette had two singles and Zach Hare doubled and singled. Grantsville was paced by Nathan King’s double and single, Corey Helbig’s double, and Matt Watson’s double and single.

Aaron O’Rourke came on in relief of Kevin Hupe and struck out 10 in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Post 13 (10-5-1) visits Morgantown Post 2 Tuesday at West Virginia University.
