Tri-State scores sweep Buckhannon


CUMBERLAND — Brian Powell’s pitching got Tri-State the win in first game, and the Titans used timely hitting in the second to complete a 2-1, 8-3 sweep of Buckhannon in a Pen-Mar League doubleheader Saturday at Allegany College.

Powell struck out seven and walked only one in a complete game win in the opener. After the Titans took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, Powell struck out the side in order in the seventh to seal the victory.

Along with his solid pitching, Powell hit two singles, stole a base and scored a run. Matt Wright added two singles, Justin Jenkins singled and scored a run, Mike Carter had a single and an RBI and Josh Logsdon drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly.

For Buckhannon, G. Felty had an RBI single.

In the second game, the Titans had six hits and benefitted from five walks and five hit batters.

The Titans blew the game open with a three run sixth inning. Wright added two more singles with two runs and an RBI. Jenkins had a single, a sacrifice fly, two runs scored and two RBIs. Logsdon had two RBIs with a single and a sacrifice, and Derek Hetz hit a two-run single.

Tristan Beyer allowed two earned runs in earning the win, and Carter helped get the Titans out of a jam when he entered in the fifth.

A. Gainer hit a two-run homer for Buckhannon, while J. Harris and Mike Honce doubled.

The two teams will meet again today at 1 o’clock when the Titans (10-2) travel to Buckhannon High School for a doubleheader.
