Neilson powers Chessie over T-N

From Staff Reports

FROSTBURG — Josh Neilson dominated on the mound and did a pretty job at the plate, too, as Chessie Federal Credit Union breezed past the Times-News, 15-0, in a five-inning Rec League game Friday at the Frostburg Armory.

Neilson fired a one-hitter and did not allow a ball to be hit out of the infield. He struck out nine and walked only two.

At the plate, Neilson hit a two-run home run in the second inning and also had two singles as the Chessie pounded out 15 hits.

Sean Nolan belted a double and two singles and knocked in four runs, Blaine Leasure had two singles and three RBIs and Matt Farris a triple and two RBIs. Josh Weimer added a pair of singles.

Eddie Szymanski had the only hit for the Times-News, a second-inning infield single. He also made a diving, over-the-shoulder catch in right field to rob Farris of an extra base hit and the Chessie of several runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Chessie (2-1) plays Personal Best on Monday at Allegany High, and Times-News (0-2-1) plays WEPCO at Westernport on Wednesday.

WEPCO 3

Hite Roofing 0

WESTERNPORT — Ryan Redinger and Jeremy Shingler teamed for a four-hit shutout, and Shingler ripped a two-run triple in a three-run fifth inning that carried WEPCO past Hite Roofing.

Redinger and Shingler, who relieved in the sixth, combined for eight strikeouts. Redinger got the win and Shingler a save.

Steven Holtschneider led off the WEPCO fifth with a double and scored on an errant throw of Hunter Broadwater’s bunt. After a fielder’s choice and a double by Adam Stowell, Shingler tripled to make it 3-0.

Shingler’s triple and doubles by Holtschneider, Stowell and Marcus McGinnis led WEPCO.

John Taylor hit two singles for Hite Roofing and got the loss despite pitching a five-hitter.

WEPCO (3-0) plays Fort Ashby on Monday at Frankfort. Hite Roofing plays Casselman Valley at Salisbury on Monday at 7 p.m.
