Chessie steams to win in debut

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Chessie scored seven runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the sixth to defeat Fort Ashby, 14-3, in six innings in Rec League baseball action Monday at Frankfort.

Sean Fazenbaker had three singles and three runs batted in for Chessie, while Sean Nolan doubled and knocked in a run, and Josh Neilson singled in a run. Josh Weimer doubled in a run, while Corey Greig singled and doubled to knock in two runs. Chessie shortstop Logan Harden made an outstanding diving catch in the fifth inning to help snuff a Fort Ashby rally.

For Fort Ashby, Dylan Wagoner tripled, and Marcus Weaver and Colton Jones both singled runs.

It was the season opener for both teams. Chessie will play again today, 7 p.m., at Salisbury against Casselman Valley. Fort Ashby will host Mount Savage today.



Wepco FCU 7

Barrelville ODC 0

WESTERNPORT – Adam Stowell worked the first six innings and Ryan Redinger pitched the seventh to limit the Barrelville Outdoor Club to three hits in Wepco Federal Credit Union’s Monday evening win.

Stowell struck out seven hitters through and Redinger struck out the side in the seventh.

Jeremy Shingler hit a two-run double and a two-run single for Wepco. Stowell had a two-run single as well.

Nick Logue doubled for the Outdoor Club.

Wepco plays KMK Insurance today at Westernport. Barrelville plays at Fort Ashby today.



Hite/Am. Legion 5

Sweitzer, Simson 5

BEL AIR – Hite Roofing/American Legion scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and that’s how the game ended with Sweitzer, Simson and Associates Monday at Bel Air Field.

John Taylor singled home Kody Boyer with the tie run. Boyer had singled to get the inning going. Taylor also doubled in the third and finished with three RBIs. Shane Malloy doubled, singled and scored two runs, as did Boyer.

For Sweitzer, Simson and Associates, Tyler Sweitzer doubled and Corey Helbig doubled and singled, doubling home three runs in the top of the seventh to put his team ahead momentarily, 5-4.

Hite Roofing/American Legion plays Friday at Westernport against Wepco. Sweitzer, Simson and Associates hosts the Times-News today at Southern High.



Casselman Valley 15

POTOMAC PARK - Richard Vogt, Alex Smith and Matt McKenzie combined for nine hits and Casselman Valley erupted for seven sixth-inning runs to beat the Times-News, in a season-opening slugfest at Hamilton Field.

Vogt went 3-for-3 with three singles and an RBI, Smith was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles, and McKenzie 3-for-5 with three singles and three RBIs. Teddy Linton added a double, Ryan Miller knocked in two runs, and Ryan Vogt and Ryan Finzel drove in one run for Casselman Valley.

Connor O’Rourke led all hitters by going 4-for-4 with a double, three singles and two RBIs for the Times-News. Tristan Beyer had a two-run single.

The teams, who combined for 23 hits, were tied 8-8 through five innings. Casselman Valley went up 15-7 after seven runs in top of the sixth. The Times-News scored there in the bottom half. The game was shortened because of darkness.

Both teams play again today. The Times-News takes on Sweitzer, Simson and Associates at Southern High, while Casselman Valley hosts Chessie at Salisbury at 7 p.m.
