ENID, Okla. — Parkland (Ill.) College’s Michael Bradburn and Kevin Crane hit homers on back to back pitches in the first inning Monday, and the Cobras cruised to a 14-9 victory over Allegany Community College here at the NJCAA Division II World Series.
Allegany faces Kankakee (Ill.) Community College, which won a losers’ bracket contest earlier Monday, at 3:30 p.m. today.
The Cobras tallied four runs in the first, highlighted by Bradburn’s two-run blast to left field, and three runs in the second to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
However, Allegany rallied on Ethan Newton’s three-run homer in the fourth and added three in the fifth to close the gap to 9-7. Parkland regained control with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and didn’t allow another Allegany rally. Newton recorded four RBIs.
Allegany starter Chris Kechisen was removed after 1 2/3 innings and suffered the loss. Kyle Heane pitched three innings in relief, and three Allegany relievers combined to finish the last three innings.
Parkland scored 10 runs with two outs.
Tuesday evening, Kankakee, Ill., defeated the Trojans, 7-5, knocking Allegany College out of the World Series.
Details about the game will appear in Thursday’s edition.
