ACCIDENT — Kyle Gillum belted a three-run homer and Brandon Beachy had a pair of hits and three runs batted in as No. 1 Northern rolled past No. 2 Southern, 11-1, in high school baseball Saturday afternoon.
Northern scored four times in the third and blew it open with a six-run fourth. The game was shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.
The victory makes the Huskies the lone unbeaten team in the area at 10-0 overall, and gives them sole possession of the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference lead at 9-0. It also extended their regular-season winning streak to 16 games.
Southern, which can get a quick dose of revenge when it hosts Northern on Monday, is now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the AMAC.
Trey Beasom got the complete-game win, allowing three hits over five innings and striking out four.
Gillum’s three-run homer came in the six-run fourth inning. Beachy had a two-run double and ended the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
Teddy Linton added two singles. Linton and Beasom had RBI singles in the third inning.
Nathan King had an RBI double for Southern.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Justin Combs allowed just one run for Hampshire as the Trojans won the opener, and Aaron O’Rourke got Bishop Walsh out of a jam in the second as the Spartans forced a split of a Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Combs got just two strikeouts, but drove in two runs with a double as Hampshire picked up an 8-1 win in the opener. O’Rourke got the save in game two by getting the tying run out to secure a 6-4 win.
Ollie Douthitt added a double and a single for the Trojans in the first game, and Jaylen Newcome had an RBI double. Nathan Whitacre added an RBI single.
For the Spartans, Marshall Porter hit a double, and Kevin Myers had two singles.
BW broke a 3-3 tie in the second game by scoring three times in the sixth inning. Hampshire got a run back in the seventh before O’Rourke ended the inning.
Porter had two singles and an RBI, Myers had an RBI double and James Loffert hit a double and a single to drive in one run.
For Hampshire, Caleb Hill had a single and a double to drive in one run, and Newcome had an RBI double. Isaiah Chaney knocked in a run with a single.
Hampshire (6-8) plays Monday at home at Washington at 7 p.m.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Home runs in the fifth inning of each game helped Hedgesville to sweep a doubleheader against Keyser played Saturday afternoon at John Kruk Field.
Ricky Miller hit a solo home run leading off the fifth inning of the Eagles’ 6-3 win in game one. Steven Miele doubled and tripled in a run.
Keyser got two singles and two runs batted in from Daniel Zinn, Jack Tasker added an RBI single and Cody Shoemaker hit a double.
The Golden Tornado made it 6-3 with a run in the seventh and had the bases loaded when the final out was recorded.
Travis Ahlgren went deep in the fifth inning on game two to send Hedgesville on to a 10-4 win. Scott Keifer had two singles and a run batted in, and Justin Colter hit a single to drive in one run.
Zinn had three hits, a triple and two doubles, and knocked in two more runs. Tasker had two RBIs on a single, and R.C. Pratt finished with a double and a single.
Cody Spotts had seven strikeouts in five innings while earning the win.
Keyser (2-8) plays again on Monday, at Fort Hill at 4 p.m.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Jameson Jones threw a complete game with seven strikeouts, and allowed just five hits in getting their second win of the season with a decision over Southern Friday in jayvee baseball.
Jones finished with two hits, while Brent Parrish had three hits and Colton Shoemaker two. Both had two RBIs, and Matt O’Reilly hit a two-run double and scored twice.
Tyler Sweitzer had two hits for Southern. Keyser (2-4) will play Fort Hill Monday at 5 p.m.
Allegany 13 4

OAKLAND — Stephen Bonnett and Seth Thompson homered for Allegany as the Campers won the first game, and Shane Peck drove in Calvin Hilliard in the eighth inning as Southern won the second game in a jayvee doubleheader at Broadford Park.
Allegany won the first of the two games 13-7. Bonnett hit a solo home run, while Thompson went deep with two men on, both in the first inning. Cody Hofacker and Jaron Lutton both went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Aaron Leasure was the winning pitcher with a complete game effort.
The Rams got a double, a single and two RBIs from Peck.
Peck had two hits in the second game including the single that gave Southern the 5-4 win. Hilliard doubled the at bat before Peck singled to get in scoring position. Dylan Bennett drove in one run with a double and a single.
Leasure was 4-for-4 with three RBIs for the Campers, and Ryan Aldridge went 2-for-4.
Tyler Sweitzer had nine strikeouts in the victory, throwing all eight innings.
The Rams (4-3) play Wednesday at home against Hampshire.
