Frostburg takes two

CLERMONT, Fla. — Sophomore Brooke Tapman posted three RBIs and Frostburg State totaled 13 runs in a pair of wins on the second day of the NTC Spring Games, Monday afternoon. In the first game, FSU needed just six innings to defeat UMass-Boston 10-2 and tossed in a 3-0 shutout win over Bethany (W.Va.) in the second contest.

The Bobcats (6-2) received 15 walks throughout game one from the UMB pitchers and broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-1 edge.

The Beacons plated a single run in the top of the sixth but FSU scored six in the bottom half of the inning to end the game.

Freshman Megan Magee struckout four, walked three and gave up three hits in the victory. She allowed just two runs, none earned.

Tapman finished 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI while senior Kaitlyn Wagner was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and sacrifice fly.

Junior starter Katelyn Coffey fanned six and scattered six hits in helping Frostburg State to its first shutout victory in the second game.

FSU got on the board in the third inning as junior Lindsay Freitag led off the inning with a triple and was knocked home by Tapman. The Bobcats later scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth for the victory.

Tapman finished the contest 3-for-4 with an RBi while Freitag was 1-for-3 with a triple. Freshman Brooke Speak was 1-for-2 with an RBI as well.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday when it plays Bethel (1:30 p.m.) and Pine Manor (3:30 p.m.) at the NTC Spring Games.
