Popluhar’s four hits powers F.A. Lions over Riverside, 11-6

POTOMAC PARK — Braiden Popluhar had two singles, a double and a triple, scored four runs and knocked in two more to lead the Fort Ashby Lions to an 11-6 victory over Riverside Sports Thursday at Holler Field.

Hunter Jenkins and Blake Rhodes both had two singles and knocked in two runs for the Lions, while Gavin Mauzy had a two-run single and scored two runs.

The Lions used a five-run fifth to spell the difference in the score and played clutch defense as well as Popluhar, the catcher, threw out a runner trying to steal second to end a Riverside rally in the second. The Lions also turned a double play to quelch another Riverside rally in the fourth.

Riverside was led by Bryce Nightengale with a single, a triple and two runs scored and Brett Fuzie with two singles and two RBIs.

The Lions (13-3) will play the Optimist Monday at the Hot Stove Complex. Riverside (10-5-1) will play the Rotary Tuesday at Bel Air Field.

LAVALE — Blake Milburn fired a seven strikeout two-hitter to lead Cumberland Outdoor Power over Bill Miller Equipment Thursday evening at Femi Field.

Zack Ellsworth led Outdoor Power’s 9-hit attack with a two base hits and four RBIs. Logan Milburn had two base hits and Matt Oleksik belted a two-run triple for the big hit of the game.

Caleb Wilt doubled for one of Bill Miller’s two hits.

Bill Miller led 2-1 after the first inning and second before Outdoor Power began to pull away with a four-run third, three in the fourth and four in the sixth before the game was ended due to the time limit.

Outdoor Power (9-7) will take on the Cumberland Lions at Holler Field on Tuesday. Bill Miller Equipment (0-15-1) plays Young’s Unlimited Thursday at Hamilton Field.

FROSTBURG — Zach Beal pitched a complete game and hit a three-run home run as well as two singles to knock in five runs and lead the Frostburg Legion to a five-inning Hot Stove win over Hobo’s Restaurant Thursday at Mountain Ridge High School.

Evan Payton tripled and singled for the Legion, while Zach Hager tripled and Jake Hafer singled twice. Defensively, the Legion turned three double plays.

M.J. Messenger doubled and singled twice to knock in four runs for Hobo’s.

Frostburg Legion (5-8-1) will play Madigan’s Auto Sunday, 3:30 p.m., at Holler Field. Hobo’s (2-12) will play today against Team One Auto at Holler Field.

Rotary    11

KMK Insurance    5


POTOMAC PARK — Ricky Colbert tripled twice and singled to knock in seven runs to lead Rotary to a win over KMK Insurance Wednesday at Holler Field.

Derek Hickle had four singles and Stefan Miller three singles for Rotary, while Brayden Stott singled twice. Derrick Kaylor and Austin Fairell both doubled.

Derrick Pryor singled twice for KMK and Cameron Bohrer tripled.

Rotary (9-6) will play a make-up game Saturday, 7 p.m., at Salisbury. KMK (5-11) will play the Kiwanis today, 6 p.m., at Femi Field.

Young’s Unlimited    1


BEL AIR — The Cumberland Lions used a five-run third and a four-run fifth to dispatch Young’s Unlimited in five innings Wednesday at Bel Air Field.

The Lions were led by Chris King with a triple and Tanner Brode with a two-run single.

Brian McMillan doubled for Young’s.

The Cumberland Lions (5-8-1) will play the Cresaptown Eagles today at Bel Air Field.

G&S Coal    2


WESTERNPORT — Winning pitcher Vinnie Cuthbertson had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Keyser VFW over G&S Coal/Taylor Mining in four innings Thursday evening.

Keyser VFW finished with 12 hits while Cutherbertson, Beau Horner and Dalton Wilt limited G&S Coal to three hits as they combined for nine strikeouts. Cuthbertson had five strikeouts through two innings and Horner and Wilt each had two.

Cuthbertson tripled, had two base hits, stole two bases and had an RBI. Horner doubled, belted two singles, had two RBIs and scored three times. Logan Robinette had two singles and scored twice.

G&S Coal was paced by Alan Green’s triple, single and he scored a run. Gary Shingler added a double.

Both teams will play the Frostburg Legion next week. Keyser (13-1-1) will host Frostburg Tuesday while G&S Coal (1-13) plays at the Legion on Thursday.

POTOMAC PARK — Three players each had three hits as Bedford Thomas Chevrolet beat Madigan’s in six innings Wednesday at Holler Field.

Winning pitcher Robert Hernandez held Madigan’s to three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Zach Shaffer, Cal Miller and Jeremiah Bingham all finished with three hits. Miller tripled and doubled and Lucas Waugerman had two base hits.

Thomas Chevrolet (9-7) plays the Salisbury Legion tonight at Hamilton Field. Madigan’s (5-10) plays D&D Homes/Moran’s Lawn Care Monday at Barton Meadows Field.
