FROSTBURG — Connor O’Rourke had three hits and Aaron O’Rourke tossed a complete game as the Times-News defeated Chessie Credit Union, 7-5, to earn a spot in the Rec League finals Friday evening at Frostburg Armory field.
The Times-News (11-7-1) will play regular-season champion WEPCO (17-1) in the first game of the best-of-three championship series on Monday, at 5:30, at the Hammersmith Complex at the Fairgrounds.
The Times-News scored five runs in the first two innings and never trailed in the deciding best-of-three semifinal series with Chessie.
Connor O’Rourke hit a double and two singles for the Times-News, which outhit Chessie 14-7. Forhest Crass and Zach Ward doubled and singled, while Michael Moyer, Aaron O’Rourke and Jared Bittner hit two singles.
Aaron O’Rourke struck out seven in the complete-game win.
Josh Neilson hit two-run double and a single and Josh Jenkins had a two-run double in the seventh for Chessie (10-9), which rallied for three runs and had the bases loaded with two out when O’Rourke got out of the jam with a game-ending pickoff play at second base.
