CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Doug Perry set the tone by leading off the bottom of the first with a home run, and Washington handed Hampshire its first loss of the young season 10-4 Saturday in Charles Town.
Besides his home run in the first Perry also had a double and two singles to drive in a total of three runs. Logan Johnson knocked in a pair with two singles and Trey Fields plated two runners with a double.
Hampshire scored a run in each of the first three innings, but were held scoreless after that until the seventh. The Patriots got one run in the first, two in the second and four in the fourth. They got their final three runs in the sixth.
Hampshire got two RBIs on a double and a single from Jalen Newcome. Nathan Whitacre and Isaiah Chaney also had a double and a single.
Washington also won the jayvee game, 8-5.
Now 2-1, the Trojans will play Southern at home on Wednesday at 4:30.
