CUMBERLAND — John Shaffer had a home run in each game as the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans used strong hitting and stingy pitching to sweep Westmoreland (Pa.) Community College Sunday afternoon at the Rock.
Shaffer, who had a solo shot in the Trojans’ 15-1 first game victory and belted a two run shot in the 12-0 second-game win, accounted for five RBIs.
Sean Dixon and A.J. Robinson picked up the wins on the mound. Dixon (2-1) only had two strikeouts but was the beneficiary of good defense behind him. Dan Smith relieved in the sixth and the pair held Westmoreland to five hits.
Robinson had four strikeouts and allowed only two hits in picking up his first win. Chris Stein relieved in the fifth giving up one hit for the save.
Westmoreland’s only run of the afternoon came on Nate Helster’s home run in the third inning of the first game.
Kasey Clinton was the big hitter in the first game for the Trojans with two singles and a double for three RBIs. Robinson had two hits and an RBI.
Shaffer had three hits in the second game, adding a triple and a single for three RBIs. Jon Kemmer also had three hits, all doubles, and two RBIs. Matt Curtis, Sean Collette and Cole Heffner each had two hits. Curtis and Heffner both drove in two runs.
Allegany (9-3) hosts Germantown Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
