POTOMAC PARK — Top-seeded Culver Design manufactured three runs in the top of the sixth inning with the aid of an error and defeated The Wisp, 5-3, to sweep their best-of-three Hot Stove League playoff series Wednesday at Hamilton Field.
Josh Crawford went the route for the win, allowing seven hits while striking out seven and walking none.
Culver Design scored its first two runs in the third inning. Dane Heavener singled, Bucky Timbrook walked and Trevor Moore reached on the first of his two singles to load the bases. The first run came in on a fielder’s choice play and an error on a grounder by Chris Wilson allowed the second run to score.
In the sixth inning, Crawford cracked a single, Colton Moreland walked and Trevor Largent reached with a bunt single to fill the bases. Caleb Landis put down another perfect bunt for a base hit that sent in the first run. The final two runs scored on an error on a bunt by Shannon Ruggles.
Losing pitcher Cody Rodeheaver, who allowed seven hits in his seven innings, hit two singles for The Wisp (15-7). Jared Fike and Josh Bittinger had run-producing doubles.
Culver Design lifted its record to 20-14 with its 14th straight win and will play the winner of the Cork’s Cars-Madigan’s Auto series in the semifinals next week.

POTOMAC PARK — The Cresaptown Eagles pounded out 16 hits, had three 3-run innings and a 4-run inning to complete a two-game sweep of Frostburg First United in the second round of the Hot Stove League playoffs in five innings at Holler Field.
Ryan Murphy singled three times for the Eagles, and Ryan Keifer tripled and doubled. Seth Clark and Travis Milburn both tripled and singled, while Kevin Myers, Chris Fram and Trevor Porter all doubled and singled.
For First United, Dan Streitbeck doubled and singled, while Jamie Moorehead and Colin Keister doubled.
The Cresaptown Eagles will play the winner of the Salisbury-Hobo’s Restaurant series next week.
