WEPCO clinches Rec League crown


WESTERNPORT — Daniel Warnick stole third base and scored on the overthrow into left field in the bottom of the 11th as WEPCO edged the Times-News, 3-2, to clinch the Rec Baseball League regular-season title Wednesday evening.

Warnick walked to open the 11th and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Russell to set the stage for his decisive steal. Russell tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the seventh inning after Forhest Crass gave the Times-News the lead with a solo home run in the top of the inning.

Jeremy Shingler relieved starter Ryan Redinger and pitched four scoreless innings while allowing only one hit to get the win. Redinger had 11 strikeouts and gave up only four hits over the first seven innings.

Shingler stroked a triple and came in on a throwing error for WEPCO’s first run in the second inning. Redinger also tripled, Warnick doubled and Adam Stowell hit two singles.

Zach Ward added a double for the Times-News. Aaron O’Rourke pitched the first eight innings before giving way to Jacob Foreman.

WEPCO (14-1) will play Personal Best/KMK on Friday at Allegany High School. Times-News (7-6-1) will take on Barrelville ODC today at Allegany College.

MOUNT SAVAGE — Sean Nolan pitched a two-hitter and Matt Farris hit a three-run home run and triple, leading Chessie Federal Credit Union over Barrelville Outdoor Club in a game shortend to five innings by the 10-run rule at Dickel Field.

Logan Harden contributed three doubles to Chessie’s 12-hit attack and drove in three runs. Nolan and Josh Neilson hit doubles, and Blaine Leasure and Shannon Farrell had two singles each. Nolan and Farrell each had one RBI.

Nolan gave up only a pair of singles and had five strikeouts and no walks.

Chessie (8-7) will play Hite Roofing/American Legion on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Hot Stove Complex.



Sweitzer, Simson 8

Fort Ashby VFW 2

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Seth Hinebaugh hit a two-run single in the sixth and Tim Holler belted a two-run homer in the seventh to lift Sweitzer, Simson and Associates past Fort Ashby VFW at Frankfort.

Sweitzer, Simson trailed 2-1 after five innings before taking the lead with a four-run sixth. Sean Rollman had a key bunt single that loaded the bases before Hinebaugh’s two-run single put Sweitzer, Simson on top for good.

Corey Helbig ripped a triple, double and single and winning pitcher Nathan King had two singles for Sweitzer, Simson (7-6-2).

Cody Weese and Zach Bradfield had two singles for Fort Asbhy, which finished the season with a 5-11 record.

Sweitzer, Simson will play Personal Best/KMK on Saturday at noon at the Hot Stove complex.

SHORT GAP, W. Va. — Winning pitcher Tristan Beyer and Michael Moyer drove in four runs apiece with a double and single as the Times-News rolled over Sweitzer, Simson and Associates at Frankfort.

Beyer allowed five hits and had five strikeouts in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule. Jacob Foreman added a two-run triple for the Times-News.

Cody Parsons pounded a two-run home run and Nathan King cracked a double and single for Sweitzer, Simson and Associates.
