CUMBERLAND — Josh Logsdon tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener and went 3-for-4 in the nitecap as the league-leading Tri-State Titans swept Romney, 3-0 and 8-4, in a Pen-Mar League doubleheader Sunday at Allegany College.
Both teams had just four hits in the first game, but Tri-State (18-4) came up with its hits at the right times and led 3-0 after four innings.
Brian Powell led off the first inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Justin Jenkins, and Rich Stiffey hit a leadoff single in the second and scored on a triple by Bill Davis to make it 2-0. The other run came in the fourth when Stiffey was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out single by Nick Bible.
Logsdon struck out three and walked two in going the distance.
Chris Szafran had two singles and Cody Moreland doubled for Romney. Nate Beeghly was the tough-luck loser with a four-hitter.
In the second game, Logsdon had three singles, Matt Wright a triple and single, Justin Schellhaus two singles, two runs and two RBIs, and Justin Jenkins a triple and two runs scored.
Tri-State extended a 2-0 lead to 7-0 with a five-run third, highlighted by Jenkins’ triple, an RBI single by Logsdon and a two-run single by Schellhaus.
Justin Minnick doubled, scored two runs and drove in two more for Romney (7-15). Sean Forney had two singles and an RBI.
Tri-State ends its regular season against Cumberland in a 1 p.m. twinbill at Bel Air on Saturday.
