Shroyer powers Hobo’s to sweep

POTOMAC PARK — Corey Shroyer pitched a complete-game 2-hitter, striking out 16 batters in leading Hobo’s Restaurant to a 3-0 victory over Barney’s Drywall and providing Hobo’s with a two-game sweep of their first-round Hot Stove League playoff series Thursday evening at Hamilton Field.

Shroyer was in complete control and seemed to get stronger as the game wore on, striking out all nine batters he faced in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

At the plate Shroyer went 3-for-4 for Hobo’s with a run batted in. Luke Campbell had two singles and an RBI, and Mikah Stair had a pair of singles with an RBI.

Hobo’s took a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two in the third, but Eli Souders entered the game in the fourth for Barney’s and shut the door on Hobo’s, striking out four batters the rest of the way.

Hobo’s (13-2) now awaits its playoff opponent and destination for next week’s second round.



Salisbury 8

American Insurance 4

POTOMAC PARK — Salisbury used a pair of three-run innings, the first and the fourth, to defeat American Insurance at Holler Field and sweep its first-round best-of-three Hot Stove League playoff series.

Alex Beiler had four singles for Salisbury, while Cody Dice had two singles. Brandon Miller had two singles and a triple.

For American Insurance, Sam Hafacker singled twice.

Mike Miller worked the first three, and was relieved in the fourth by Beiler, who finished the game. They limited American Insurance to five hits, all singles, and combined for 10 strikeouts.

Salisbury now advances to next week’s second round.



Cork’s Cars 15

D&D; Motors 7

BARTON — Cork’s Cars put nine on the board in the first inning and cruised from there in defeating D&D; Motors to sweep their first-round playoff series at Barton Meadows.

Mason Dick 4-for-4 with three singles and a double for Cork’s, while Ryan Bennett had two singles and a triple, and Logan Stewart had a single and a triple.

For D&D; Motors, J. Wilson had a triple and a single and D. Redinger had a double and a triple.

Cork’s Cars will play today’s East Hardy-Madigan’s Auto winner in the second round next week.
