Tri-State sweeps Oakland

CUMBERLAND — Tri-State got complete game performances from Brian Powell and Justin Munson to sweep a doubleheader, 10-3 and 5-3, with Oakland Sunday afternoon in Pen-Mar action at Allegany College of Maryland.

The win makes Tri-State 16-4. On Sunday the Titans will host Romney in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at The Rock. Oakland slips to 10-8. It will play Romney at Garrett College in a Saturday doubleheader, and will play two games with Cumberland on Sunday at Bel Air Field.

Powell allowed three runs, struck out five and walked one in Tri-State’s 10-3 win in the opener. His Titan teammates got him out to a 6-0 lead before Oakland scored once in the fourth. Tri-State then scored its final four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Josh Logsdon led the Titans with three singles, one run batted in and two more runs scored. Bill Davis drove in two runs with a single, and added a RBI on a sacrifice fly. Derek Hetz finished with a single, three runs and two RBIs.

Oakland’s Dan Flores hit a double and a triple to score a run and drive in another. Bill Reams and Derek Patsy both had two singles, with Patsy getting a RBI. Scott Wildesen added a single, double and two runs.

Hetz added three more hits, two doubles and a single, and two RBIs in the Titans’ second game win. Davis had a RBI and a run on a double and a single, and Mike Carter and Jim Barrett each had a single and a RBI.

Munson recorded five strikeouts in his complete game, and held Oakland to one run until the Oaks scored twice in the sixth.

Wildesen led the Oaks with two singles and a RBI, and Spencer Barnard drove in a run with a double. Corey Bosley doubled and scored a run.
