Oakland splits DH with Orioles


MCHENRY — Oakland collected a 10-run win in the first game, and Cumberland rebounded for a seven-run victory in the second as the Oaks and Orioles split a Saturday doubleheader at Garrett College on Saturday to remain tied in the Pen-Mar standings.

Oakland got strong pitching and home runs from Dan Flores and Scott Wildesen to come away with a 11-1, five-inning, win. The pitching dominance switched to Cumberland’s Tony Fetters in the second contest, and the Orioles cored five times in the sixth inning of a 8-1 win.

Flores connected for a two-run homer, and Oakland scored five times in the second inning to jump ahead early. Two more runs were scored when Wildesen went deep in the fourth. Flores came back again when he got two more RBIs on a fifth-inning single. Brian Lenhart and Jamie Clark added two singles each, and Corey Bosley had a two-run single and four walks.

Stowell would allow just three hits in the complete game. One was a RBI double to Koepsel.

Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the late outing when it scored in the bottom of the first. From there it was all Orioles.

Tony Fetters had six strikeouts in seven innings and allowed four single. Two of them were from Lenhart.

Mike Hutchinson led Cumberland with a triple, single, two runs scored and two driven in. Koepsel had two singles, two RBIs and a run scores, and Fetters contributed a double and a single. Brandon Benson finished with a pair of runs scored and a RBI with a double and a single.

Both teams are 10-6 after splitting the doubleheader, and both teams play again today. The Oaks will play the Tri-State Titans at Allegany College at 1 p.m.Cumberland will play Berkshire (Pa.) at noon at Frostburg State University.
