CUMBERLAND — Sean Collette’s first-inning home run gave Fort Cumberland an edge in the second game of a doubleheader Post 13 split with the Jefferson Bulls Sunday afternoon at Legion Field.
Collette went deep with no one on in the opening inning to give Cumberland the early lead. A four-run fourth inning would help secure a 7-3 win. Jefferson got to Post 13 in the late innings of the first game for a 5-1 win.
Collette would add a second hit and RBI when he singled later in the second game. Brennan Connelley finished with a pair of singles, and Cody Ellsworth delivered a run scoring double. Scott Rice was credited with two RBIs on as many sacrifice flies.
Chandler Tomlinson struck out five and allowed six hits. All three of the runs he allowed were scored in the fifth.
Jamie Ricard had a double and a single, and Trevor Poe had a double for the Bulls.
Sunday’s opener saw Jefferson get a run in the first inning before both teams went dry until the sixth. Jefferson made the score 3-0 in the sixth, and added two more in the seventh. Fort Cumberland scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh, and had the bases loaded when the final out was recorded.
Brian Milburn gave Jefferson the 3-0 lead when he hit a two-run shot in he sixth. Poe added a double.
Collette hit a double in the loss, and Cody Weese hit two singles.
Fort Cumberland has its record move to 11-7-1 after the split. It will play a single game with Mountain District opponent Grantsville Post 214 at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Garrett College.
