Fred Jay Frazier Sr. [Fairmont]

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fred Jay Frazier Sr., 86, of Fairmont, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born Nov. 21, 1923 in Bayard, W.Va. (Grant County), a son of the late Lindsey and Bessie Perry Frazier.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hoffman Frazier.

Mr. Frazier was a 1941 graduate of Bayard High School. He then worked at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard at Baltimore, Md. before entering the United States Army in 1943. He served aboard the U.S.A.T. “Evangeline” and S.S. “William Few” as a medic in the European Theatre transporting troops, prisoners of war, and the wounded. Before discharge he was stationed at Army Post office in Long Island, N.Y. At discharge from the Army in 1946, he worked as an iron worker for Fairmont Machinery Co. and Roberts and Schaffer Co., building coal preparation plants until 1965. He then worked for Eastern Associated Coal Corporation as Foreman at the Federal No. 1Mine Preparation Plant, Grant Town, W.Va until retirement in 1984. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, George Lee and Sara Kester Frazier of Burgettstown, Pa. and Fred Jay Frazier Jr. and wife Carolyn Holmes Frazier of Farmington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Fred Jay Frazier III and wife Jennifer Jones Frazier of Farmington, Douglas Evan Frazier of Burgettstown, Duane Aaron Frazier of Burgettstown, and Randy Lee and Mollie McNeill Frazier of Thoburn, W.Va.; three great-granddaughters, Breunn Jayde Frazier, Morgan Jones-Frazier and Baylee Jones-Frazier; one great grandson, Ayden Michael Frazier of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Paul Moon, Sarah and Schlabe Rubenstein and Lorene and George Harding; and one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Rhonda Frazier.

Friends may call at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 from 9 to 10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Keith Meyers officiating. Military funeral honors will be held in the funeral home after the service by the Marion County Veterans Council.

Interment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery in Bayard, at 1:30 p.m.
