LONACONING — Alta Marie (Algoe) Schramm, 85, of Lonaconing, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg.
Born May 22, 1924 in Masury, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Walter Algoe and Genevieve (Pindle) Algoe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wm. Schramm; and one brother Bernard Algoe.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing, where she was a member of the Marian Circle of the church. She was also a member of the Martha Washington Chapter 10, O.E.S., Lonaconing and the George’s Creek Senior Citizens, Lonaconing. She trained as a nurse in 1945 at the Alliance City Hospital, Alliance, Ohio, where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Children’s Hospital and St, Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio. After leaving Akron, she then went onto continue her nursing at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. From 1956-1963 she worked at Miner’s Hospital, Frostburg. Then she went on the work at Frostburg State University from 1963-1985. She retired as a R.N. in 1985.
She is survived by one son, Charles “Sonny” McKinley Schramm and wife Jean of Poolesville; three grandchildren, Charles, Jr. Schramm and wife Carri, Kevin Schramm and wife Kristina and Laura Schramm; four great-grandchildren, Melanie, Julia, Joey and Kaitlyn; one brother, Walter Algoe and wife Joyce of Hermitage, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating.
Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
