Wisp ski slopes open Thursday

MCHENRY — After 5 inches of snowfall Saturday and plummeting temperatures in the Deep Creek Lake region, winter has arrived at Wisp Resort.

With four consecutive snowmaking days, Wisp Resort will be open for skiing Thursday with an abbreviated operating schedule, limited terrain and reduced lift tickets. Wisp’s 54th birthday celebration is planned for Sunday and Monday with reduced lift tickets, half-price rentals and lessons, music, games and complimentary birthday cake.

Hours of operation are Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday and Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.



Fort Ashby man named to state post

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. (AP) — Steve B. Miller has been named assistant commissioner of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.

Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass said Tuesday that Miller’s appointment is effective Jan. 1.

Miller currently is the department’s director of eastern operations.

The Fort Ashby resident began working at the agency in 1981 as a dairy marketing specialist.



City seeks owner of digital camera

CUMBERLAND — A digital camera was found on the sidewalk downtown the night of the annual tree lighting.

The camera is located at the Parks & Recreation Department office at (301) 759-6636.

The owner of the camera can call and identify the camera, color and make and/or the pictures on it to reclaim the camera.
