MOUNT SAVAGE — Volunteer rescue workers from Mount Savage and Corriganville responded to the Smith Farm on Patty Baker Road around 10 a.m. Friday where it was reported that a tree had fallen on a person, according to a dispatcher at Allegany County Joint Communications.
Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 5, which was in the air on a routine flight, flew to the area and transported the injured man to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Mount Savage firefighters used an all-terrain vehicle to reach the victim, who was half a mile in the woods, and moved him to a field where the helicopter landed, according to a company spokesman.
“There were two men cutting a tree and apparently the middle of the tree was dead, the top broke off and hit one of them in the head and back,” the spokesman said.
The man, whose name was not released by any of the responders, was not trapped by the tree.
