PEKIN — Gladys Marie Fairgrieve McCabe, 94, of Pekin, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frostburg.
Born in Detmold on April 6, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James Fairgrieve and Maude (Green) Fairgrieve.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond D. Fairgrieve, December 1957; and one sister, Evelyn Shuck; and two brothers, Lester and Milton Fairgrieve.
She was of the Methodist faith. She retired from the Westvaco Corp. in 1980, where she worked in the finishing room. She was very active and never still. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and made good candy fudge.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond McCabe and his wife Jo Ann of Hagerstown, and Donald McCabe and friend Freda of Nikep; one granddaughter, Debbie McCabe and friend Ernie of Hagerstown; one sister, Dolores Sterling of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Aubrey Hogan Fairgrieve of Lonaconing, John Fairgrieve of Lonaconing, Dwaine Fairgrieve of Moscow, and Galen Fairgrieve of New York; one sister-in-law, Angela McCabe of Pekin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Maxwell Greenfield officiating.
Interment will be at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Barton.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made out to the Barton Fire Company or the Georges Creek Ambulance Service. Memorial cards will be available at the funeral home.
