PAW PAW, W.Va. — Margaret Helena Shanholtz Gordon, 94, of Paw Paw, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.

Born in Paw Paw on June 14, 1915, she was the daughter of James Morgan and Ida Patterson Shanholtz Hogbin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles Aldon Gordon Sr., who died in October of 1993. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Darla June Kerns; by one grandson, Joseph Michael Kerns; and by one sister, Juanita Shanholtz Snyder.

Mrs. Gordon graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1932 and was a member of the Paw Paw High School Alumni Association. She was a lifelong member of the Paw Paw Church of Christ. Mrs. Gordon had been employed by John T. Sibole and D. G. Bevans Stores, locally. She also worked in Ladies Apparel at Rosenbaum’s in downtown Cumberland. She retired in 1980 from the United States Postal Service in Paw Paw.

She is survived by a daughter, Helena Gordon Moser; and a son, Charles Aldon Gordon Jr.; and a son-in-law, Donald Kerns, all of Paw Paw.

She had 13 grandchildren, Kathy Kerns Griffin and husband Bruce Griffin of Arcadia, Fla., Margaret Gordon Miller of Farmingdale, N.J., Connie Gordon Deaver and husband Harold “Rocky” Deaver of Homestead, Fla., Robin Gordon Bunting and husband Ray Bunting of Great Cacapon, Charles Aldon Gordon III and wife Amanda of Jacksonville, Fla., Jennifer Gordon-Siegworth and husband Robert Siegworth of Charlotte, N.C., and William Gordon Moser of Paw Paw.

She had 16 great-grandchildren, Michael Scott Kerns of Paw Paw, Melissa Kerns Villafuerte and husband Nicolas of Arcadia, Kevin Miller Jr. and wife Jada of Virginia Beach, Va., Kristopher Miller of Farmingdale, Kyle Miller of Martinsburg, Kayla Miller of Virginia Beach, Cameron Hammer of Farmingdale, David Deaver and wife Kim of Charlotte, Jessica Deaver of Nashville, Tenn., Charles A. Gordon IV, Cody Gordon and Heather Gordon of Jacksonville, Bobby Siegworth, Nicholas Siegworth and Rachel Siegworth of Charlotte, and Morgann Moser of LaVale, Md.

She had 11 great-great-grand-children, Dustin Valladares, Cristiana Villafuerte, Daniel Villafuerte and Wally Griffin of Arcadia, Shayla Miller, Leah Miller and Kevin Miller of Virginia Beach, and Alyssa Miller of Farmingdale, Garrett McConn-ell, Madison McConnell and Carleigh Deaver. She had one great-great-great-grand-daughter, Mariah Valladares.

Visitation will be at Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Paw Paw Church of Christ with Minister Richard White and Minister Mike Collins officiating.

Interment will follow at Camp Hill Cemetery.

The Ladies Class of the Paw Paw Church of Christ will host a meal following the interment at the Paw Paw Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margaret H. Gordon to the Paw Paw Rescue Squad.
