Charles E. Cage [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Charles Edward Cage, 84, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born May 14, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Claude M. and Myrtle V. (Wolf) Cage. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Mowery and Martha Leatherman.

Mr. Cage was a retired exterminator who worked for Hygienic Extermination. Charles served in the Navy during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion, Fort Cumberland Post 13. He was also a member of Ridgeley 1946 V.F.W., Amvets Post 11 and the Cresaptown Eagles 2883.

Surviving are four daughters, Peggy Blume and husband Sam, Potomac Park, Cheryl “Pooch” Haines, Cumberland, Tammy Keister and husband Rae, Thomasville, N.C., Phyllis “Pepper” Shrout and husband Randy, Cumberland; one brother, Sonny Cage and wife JoAnn, Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and special friends, Nicole Goss and husband Fred.

At Charles’s request, his body will be cremated.

A memorial service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Landaker officiating.
