Daniel A. Long [Springfield]

SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. — Daniel Alexander Long, 65, of Springfield, died on Nov. 23, 2009, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, Md.

He was born on April 11, 1944, in Springfield, son of the late Blair A. and Dollie V. (McDonald) Long.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Merritt) Long.

Mr. Long was a graduate of Romney High School, class of 1962. He was employed by the Kinney Shoe Corporation until their closing and until 2002 was an employ of the Hampshire County Assessor’s Office. He was a life long farmer and loved his dogs, Sammie and Sadie. Mr. Long was an active member of the 351st Ordinance of the U.S. Army Reserves for six years.

He is survived by one son, Barry A. Long and wife Karen, Springfield; one daughter, Shana Long Benson and husband Danny, Springfield; two sisters, Barbara A. Cupp and Linda L. Bennett, both of Shanks; two grandsons, Kristofer Alexander Long and Kirkland Alexander Long, who were the loves of his life; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating.

Interment will be in Branch Mt. Cemetery, Three Churches.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Romney.
