To the Editor:
Martin’s Food Markets recently wrapped our annual Bag Hunger in-store campaign to support regional food banks, including the Western Maryland Food Bank. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our Cumberland customers and associates, almost $3,400 was raised to help fight hunger in our community. We want to thank everyone who made a donation at the checkout as this year’s donation was the largest to date!
As a grocery store chain, we are passionate about the fight against hunger and strive to be part of the solution to one day eradicate hunger in our market area. Martin’s also has food donations in place, providing day-old bakery items to local pantries and soup kitchens. At holiday time, we donate turkeys and hams to families who otherwise would not be able to afford a holiday meal.
In addition to our support of the Western Maryland Food Bank, we have worked hard to be a good neighbor and continue to play an active role in Allegany County. We are a proud partner in the local community whether it’s our support for local schools, our local United Way or our law enforcement officials.
Besides providing monetary and product support, we have increased our commitment to Cumberland by providing such community services as the Rolling Mill Community Room and City of Cumberland Police Department satellite office in our store. The Rolling Mill Community Room is available for use by community and citizen’s groups. For any groups that are a not-for-profit 501c3, the room can be used free of charge.
We also are very excited about our partnership with the City of Cumberland Police Department and Chief Charles Hinnant. The police department’s satellite office provides a convenient and secure office for police to meet with local residents and process routine law enforcement cases.
We thank our customers and associates who have made our store a centerpiece of the city and surrounding area.
