Allegany spectator bus available

CUMBERLAND — The Allegany Gridiron Club will be chartering a bus for Friday’s night’s Class 1A football state semifinal game at Joppatowne. Anyone interested in reserving a seat should call Teresa Fadley at (301) 707-2711. All reservations must be made by Thursday. Tickets are $25 and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frankfort-Wayne tickets on sale

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Frankfort will play at Wayne in the third round of the Class AA state football tournament on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Advance tickets will be on sale at Frankfort on Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $7 and student tickets are $5. Directions to Wayne High School, as provided by Frank-fort High School: Take 68 West to Morgantown, 79 South to 77 South, Exit 101 to I-64 West to Huntington, Exit 8 (152-S/W and 5th Street E). Turn left at 5th St/WV 152S. Turn right at Creig Road. Wayne High School is on the left.

Garrett women win season opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Tanesha Williams scored 19 points, Brionna Carter added 14 and the Garrett Lakers shook off a case of the season-opening jitters to defeat Columbus State, 73-68, in college women’s basketball on Saturday.

Williams canned seven field goals and 5-of-8 foul shots for the Lakers, who scored 44 points in the second half after a 29-29 tie at the half. Carter finished with 14 points and a team-high four assists, Tyesha Briscoe added nine points, nine rebounds and three steals and Raven Brooks had eight points, nine rebounds and three steals for Garrett. Tashara Van Alstyne had nine points and Raizel Benn nine rebounds.

Chelsea Chaffin, who was 14-for-20 from the foul line, had 17 points for Columbus State (3-4).

Garrett will play at Allegany today in a Maryland JUCO Conference game at 4:45 p.m.

Sunday School league sets deadline

CUMBERLAND — The deadline for rosters and registration fees for teams interested in competing in the Earl Nonnenmann/YMCA Sunday School Basketball League is Monday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.

Fees and rosters may be turned in at the Riverside YMCA front desk. The league will open its 82nd season on Dec. 5. For further information, call the YMCA at (301) 777-9622.

Maplehurst seniors hold scramble

FROSTBURG — Lou Femi, Ray Llewellyn and Joe Freno teamed for a 67 to win the Maplehurst senior scramble on Monday. Second, with a 70, were Ted Rybka, Tom Ruppert and Joe Neder. Third, at 71, were Tim Conner, Dutch Blank and Lynn Olsen.
