Bureau of Police officers still taking patrol cars home

I am writing in response to Commissioner Stakem’s letter in the paper on Friday, Nov. 13, where he states the final straw was the take home policy.

I would just like to say that numerous times I have seen Bureau of Police cars sitting at restaurants with officers getting in them with in plain clothes. I have also seen families getting into them. How is that different when you are allowing this to happen?

I have seen officers taking bureau cars to fire calls. You all say one thing is wrong but you allow it to happen. You all saved so much money by taking this away from the sheriff — what about all the paint jobs for the cars and new uniforms ? And let’s talk about something no ones brings up: the building. What did it cost to redo the bureau offices?

I believe that as citizens we have a right to vote on something this important. We might not like the outcome but we still have a right to vote. I say stick behind the likes of Mike Wade and Kevin Kelly and let’s get this on the referendum. As citizens of Allegany County I say voice your opinion.
