Geraldine “Gerry” R. Wolverton [Fayetteville]

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Geraldine “Gerry” Reed Wolverton, 85, of Fayetteville, N.C., passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

She was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Fellowsville, W.Va., to the late Archie Lee and Madge Morrow Reed. Gerry was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William R. Wolverton.

Gerry graduated from Fellowsville High School. She attended Potomac State from 1942 to 1946 and West Virginia University from 1946 to 1947. She went on the serve her dietetic internship in Chicago, Ill., from 1946 to 1947, later becoming a consulting dietician at many hospitals and nursing homes.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the American Dietetic Association, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughters, Lark W. Anderson and her husband Wayne, and Karla W. Duckworth; son, William R. Wolverton Jr. and his wife Wendy; foster children, Debbie Guthrie and Cathy Wolfe; grandchildren, Rebecca, Kim, Ashley, Cort, William, Cole, Jeremy, Michael, and Bryce; stepgrandchildren, Dustin, Sarah, Richard, and Melanie; great-grandchildren, Myleigh, Taylor, Ava, and Cohen; step great-grandchildren, Elijah and Lila; sister, Virginia R. Lively; and brothers, Alston L. Reed, Wallace M. Reed, and Neil A. Reed. She was also loved and cherished by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Cumberland.
