Alverta R. Sweitzer [Swanton]

SWANTON — Alverta Ruth (Boyce) Sweitzer, 69, of Swanton, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Aug. 3, 1940, in Wilson, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Lionel and Freda Eeva (Rodeheaver) Boyce. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sue (Boyce) Lee.

Mrs. Sweitzer was a homemaker and a member of Swanton Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she was trustee and secretary of the church and a member of Pastor Parish Committee. She was also a member of Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a school volunteer.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Denver Sweitzer Sr.; a son, Robert D. Sweitzer Jr. and wife Kimberly, of Deer Park; a daughter, Kendra M. Rinard and husband Tracy, of Oakland; three brothers, Forrest Boyce, of Morgantown, W.Va., Earl Boyce, of Oakland, and Harold Boyce, of Deer Park; three sisters, Josephine Shaffer, of Aurora, W.Va., Mary Paugh, of Elkton, and Gladys Collins, of Deer Park; and four grandchildren, Shayana Sweitzer, Mandy Sweitzer, Jacob Sweitzer and Delaney Joy Rinard.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 203 South Second St., Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Swanton Otterbein United Methodist Church with the Rev. Angie Cosner and the Rev. Ross Glotfelty officiating.

Interment will be in George Cemetery, Swanton.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Swanton Community Center or the Swanton Otterbein United Methodist Church.
