Hazel E. (Smith) Margraff [Accident]

ACCIDENT — Hazel Elizabeth (Smith) Margraff, 96, formerly of Accident, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at Henry Clay Villa, Markleysburg, Pa.

Born Oct. 26, 1913 in Deer Park, she was the youngest daughter of the late William Henry and Carrie Agnes (McIndoe) Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Wilmer W. Margraff; a daughter, Doris Ellen; three sisters, Ethel Bittinger, Frerne Glass and Ion Smith; and a brother, Lester Smith.

She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the Margraff School Bus and Timber Businesses for many years. She was born a Baptist and became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Accident, where she was a member of the choir, Sunday School class and the Ladies Auxiliary, where she held several offices. She helped to start and worked for the Women’s Auxiliary at the Accident Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Republican’s Women’s Club, where she worked the election polls for many years.

She is survived by two children, Karen Knight and husband Bill, Markleysburg and Edward D. Margraff and wife Linda, Accident; two grandchildren, Lee Burd and wife Sandy, Howard, Ohio and Melissa Margraff, Uniontown, Pa.; a great-grandson, Nathan; a step-granddaughter, Kara Burd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Hwy., Accident (McHenry), on Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III officiating.

Private interment will be in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Accident Volunteer Fire Department.
