OLDTOWN — Kevin Wayne Piper, 45, of Oldtown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at the WMHS-Memorial Campus.
Born June 13, 1964 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charley “Bob” and Rozella (Petenbrink) Piper, and one of God’s special children. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Ella Petenbrink; his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Agnes Piper; and a brother, William Nelson who died in 2008.
Kevin had attended Friends Aware, was involved with Boy Scout Troop 89 for more than 30 years, participated in local and state Special Olympics and Special Olympics local and state bowling league.
He is survived by three sisters, Barbara Shryock and husband Harry, Oldtown, Carol Booth and husband John, Eckhart and Evelyn Loar and husband John, Cumberland; one brother, Robert F. Piper and wife Stephanie, Oldtown; sister-in-law, Alma Nelson, Oldtown; his nieces and nephews, Missy, Mandy, Theresa, Mary, Carol, Carla, Kim, BJ, Candi, Sherry, Katie, Maria, Bob, Justin and Cody; and also great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his best friend and cousin, Charles Hanekamp; his aunts, Loretta Hanekamp, Betty Harman, Rodella Swanger and Betty Piper; many cousins; and many, many friends.
Kevin was a great friend to all and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Boy Scout Troop 89 will conduct a memorial service on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Conrad officiating.
Interment will be in Oldtown Cemetery.
