It’s time for public to just say no to ‘fire-safe cigarettes’

To the Editor:

To the Editor:

I live in Romney, W.Va., and I have smoked for over 25 years now. I have noticed that my cigarettes have tasted funny, and they make me sick. I looked online and found that these are the new “fire-safe cigarettes,” or called “FSC.” I have seen there is a petition in West Virginia that is going to be sent to the governor when they have more than 2,000 signatures. There is also a petition in the state of Pennsylvania that has more than 13,000 signatures.

The link is at: www.thepetitionsite.com/2/fire-safe-cigarettes.

Maybe we or I should tell the people in Allegany, Mineral, Hampshire and other counties about this new law. I did not see anything on the news about this, nor have I read anything in the newspapers. I did a search in other newspapers and could not locate anything either. It seems that the only news I have seen online was from MSNBC, and another news company.

To the nonsmoker this means nothing, right? Read on.

The state governments in almost every state have once again snuck under our nose as voters and passed these nice “fire-safe cigarette” laws. These new cigarettes actually have more chemicals and cause more fires than the ones before.

For the nonsmoker: We are OK with smoking outside, and not being able to smoke in a bar. That is OK ... but wait till the government tells you how many pizzas you can order a month, or when it is OK for you to watch TV. This is what us smokers feel right now.

Pick up a pack of these nice cigarettes and take a puff. You will see the sickness right away. These new smokes passed by your state legislation are called “fire-safe cigarettes.” You will see the letters marked “FSC” above the bar code. They make people sick, and you can look up the effects online.

If you do a search online you will see there are millions of people that are outraged. I know there will be a lot of people interested in a story about this. I ask that all smokers come together and fight this. These are state laws so you need to contact your governor about this issue.

Please sign this petition as this will be a start: www.thepetitionsite.com/2/fire-safe-cigarettes
