KEYSER, W.Va. — Cheryl J. "Sherry" Lucas, 54, of Route 5, Box 133, Keyser, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va.
Born on May 4, 1955, at Winchester, Va., she was a daughter of Eugene D. and Juanita H. (Kessel) Combs of Augusta. Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexia Iser.
Mrs. Lucas was employed as a paraprofessional with the Mineral County Board of Education in the special education department with 37 years of service. She was a 1973 graduate of Hampshire High School and was very proud of receiving her Associate of Arts degree in Arts and Sciences at Potomac State College in December 2008. She was a member of the Burlington Union Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and as church pianist. She was a volunteer, county coordinator and a coach for the Mineral County Special Oly-mpics, where she was named Coach of the Year. She also was a member of and served as president of the Mineral County Service Personnel Association and was named that organization's Person of the Year. She was a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary. Sherry loved spending time with her family and enjoyed drawing, traveling and yard sales.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband of 25 years, David H. Lucas; two daughters, Stacey McClintock and husband Don and Jodi Iser and boyfriend Shane Ashley, all of Keyser; one son, Jeremy Iser and fiancée Becca of Maysville; one brother, Eugene “Den” Combs and wife Linda of Kirby; six grandchildren, Aleisha Iser, Patrick, Gabi and Kristin McClintock, Kiaira Iser and Anastazja Grazyk; her mother-in-law, Jackie Lucas of Keyser; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brenda Forren and the Rev. Kenneth Caplinger officiating.
