Carl Ray Durbin [Rawlings]

RAWLINGS — Carl Ray Durbin, 81, of Rawlings, passed away on Friday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the V.A. Center, Washington, D.C.

Born Jan. 14, 1928, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Herbert B. and Nellie M. (Davis) Durbin. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Edwin W. Durbin, Walter E. Durbin, Gene Durbin, and Russell Durbin; two sisters, Geraldine Durbin and Myrtle Durbin; one son, Carl Durbin, and one stepson, Jimmy Dawson.

Mr. Durbin retired from CSX Railroad and served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Amvets, Cresaptown, and Cresaptown Eagles.

Surviving are his wife, Della Darlene Dawson Durbin; one daughter, Wanda Holtschneider and husband Keith, of Cumberland; four stepdaughters, Cindy Osbourne and husband James, of Rawlings, Nina Lancaster and husband Otis, of Rawlings, Brenda Shelley, of Baltimore, and Kathy Blizzard and husband Danny, of LaVale; two sisters, Dolly Dunaway, of Short Gap, and Charlotte Ridgley, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Brittany Holtschneider, Andy, Stacy, Khiaya and Shayon Dawson, Jessica and James Costillow, Allison and Trevor Shelley, and Quade and Jade Blizzard.

At his request his body will be cremated.

Services will be private.
