Harry David Getz [Petersburg]

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Harry David Getz, 89, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Grant Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Pansy, W.Va., and was the son of the late Jacob Getz and Ida Susan (Shreve) Getz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Calhoun) Getz, on Jan. 24, 2009; an infant grandson; five sisters; four brothers; three half sisters and three half brothers.

Mr. Getz retired from Carpenters Local 1024, Cumberland. He was a life member of Petersburg VFW Post 6454, American Legion Post 78 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are one son, Clarence J. “Sonny” Getz and wife Shirley, of Harrisonburg, Va.; one grandson, J. W. Getz. of Norfolk, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. in the Schaeffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dee C. Flory and the Rev. Greg Rotruck officiating.

Interment in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va., with military honors by the VFW Post 6454 and the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
