George Gilbert Swan Jr. [LaVale]

LAVALE — George Gilbert Swan Jr., of LaVale, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at the WMHS-Braddock Campus.

Born Jan. 24, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George Gilbert Swan Sr. and Nora (Ryan) Swan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Angela Swan and one son, David E. Swan. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Swan was a very proud United States Army veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 13. He was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company and attended Central Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Susan Holly and husband Michael, of LaVale; his grandchildren, Jenn Briddes, of Philadelphia, Pa., Marcus Holly and wife Beth, of LaVale, and Megan and Mayci Holly, of LaVale; great-grandson, Roman Holly; his caretakers, Mike, Fonzie and Krista; his special friends, Ruth, Chuck, and Janet, and sister-in-law, Edna Swan.

The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Nallin, WMHS-Home Care, and the 5 South staff at Braddock Campus.

At his request, his body will be cremated.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Memorial services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Larry Green officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
