Blood donors may win football prize

CUMBERLAND — Blood donors during the holiday season will have the chance to win a Super Bowl package for two, including game tickets, airfare and accommodations.

The American Red Cross Greater Alleghenies Region is offering the NFL Championship Game prize drawing for blood and platelet donors from Nov. 23 through Jan. 10.

One winner will be drawn from among registered donors who are at least 18 years old. For more information, log on to www.redcrosslife.org.

Church will host bazaar today, Saturday

CUMBERLAND — Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 N. Centre St., will hold its annual Christmas bazaar today and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Fire victims in need of girls’ clothing

CUMBERLAND — The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is collecting donations to help the family of one of its employees, Robert Handley, whose Oldtown home was destroyed by an accidental fire Monday.

The family is in need of girls’ clothes sizes 3T, 6X and 10/12.

New items may be dropped off at the office in the Western Maryland Railway Station on the third floor.



Homelessness board to meet Wednesday

CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Homelessness Board will meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Room 100 of the Allegany County Office Complex on Kelly Road.



Democratic women to meet Saturday

CUMBERLAND — The Democratic Women’s Club of Allegany County will meet Saturday at noon at the Holiday Inn. Casey Clark, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives District 6 seat, will be the speaker.

Second dose of H1N1 vaccine to be given

CUMBERLAND —The Allegany County Health Department will begin second doses of H1N1 Mist for students who received the vaccine before their 10th birthday.

The vaccine will be given in George’s Creek, Beall, Westernport and Frost elementary schools Wednesday and will continue in all public and private elementary schools as more vaccine arrives. For updates of the schedule, log on to www.acps.allconet.org.
