To the Editor:
This past weekend, the U.S. House of Representatives made history and passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act.
This historic accomplishment has come despite the intense resistance from insurance industry and other stakeholders who reap the benefits from the status quo while many of us are one illness or accident away from bankruptcy.
Kudos to the representatives who resisted insurance industry pressure and stood up for their constituents.
This was a vote to lower health care costs to families and businesses and begin to reduce the deficit while expanding coverage to the uninsured.
Rep. Roscoe Bartlett did not vote yes. However, he will have another opportunity to consider supporting health care reform in the final House vote.
I hope he considers supporting health care reform and making history, and I hope my fellow constituents will contact his office to ask him to vote yes on the final health care reform bill.
