Mary Lou (Morgan) Layton [Frostburg]

FROSTBURG — Mary Lou (Morgan) Layton, 64, of Frostburg, transitioned from life to eternal rest on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, with her family by her side.

She was born on Oct. 23, 1945, the seventh of seven children, to Sylvia Alverta (Spencer) Morgan and David John Morgan. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Josiah, Paul Revere and David; and her only granddaughter, Morgan.

Mary Lou, “Lulu,” received her formal education in the public school system of Allegany County. She was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Beall High School.

She married her adoring husband, Lawrence R. “Junior” Layton, on Oct. 19, 1968. They are the parents of two children, Craig Allan Layton, of Frostburg, and Tosha Lawre’ Layton, of Bladensburg.

Mary Lou spent most of her life working in the secretarial field. Most recently she was the office manager and function coordinator at Failinger’s Hotel Gunter. Additionally, she enjoyed crafting as a hobby.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Junior; her two children, Craig and Tosha; two sisters, Dorothy Hunt, of Midland, and Arlean Herrman, of Margate, Fla.; one brother, Raymond Morgan, of Midlothian; several brothers and sisters-in-law; a host of nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and an abundance of friends. In fact, she knew no strangers.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Matt Eichhorn officiating. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to the time of service

Pallbearers will be Jim Brady, Chuck Gray, John Martin, Tom Wilson, Dave Broadwater, and Bobby Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hunt, Bill Herrman, Raymond Morgan, and Jake Failinger.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
