CUMBERLAND — Rose A. Hay, 90, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born June 25, 1919, in Alexander, Va., she was the daughter of the late Frederick Graebenstein and Rose (Smith) Graebenstein. She was also preceded in death by one son, W. Joseph Hay Jr., and a sister, Mary Frances Howell.
Mrs. Hay was a retired Chief Judge of the Allegany County Orphans Court. She was a 1937 graduate of Catholic Girls Central High School, and was a member of the Catholic Girls Central Alumni Association. She was past President and Charter Member of the St. Mary’s Mothers Club, member of the LaSalle Mothers Club, member and past President of and Charter Member of the 4th District Democratic Women’s Club, member and past President of the Woman’s Soroptimist Club, and St. Mary’s Church Sodality, Democratic Women of the Year and member and past President of the Salvation Army.
Surviving are her husband, William J. Hay Sr.; two daughters, Katherine A. Long and husband Stephen, of Murrysville, Pa., and Suzanne M. Barncord, of Swan Point; five grandchildren, Lisa A. Wilson and husband Brett, of Cranberry Township, Pa., Scott Hay and wife Tammy, of New Windsor, Heather Kreimer, of Waynesboro, Pa., Kimberly Barncord, of Alexandria, Va., and Andrew Barncord, of Swan Point; great-grandchildren Clark, Mitchell, Bradley, Nicole, Joseph, and Luke; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Hay, of Fairfield, Pa.; and one son-in-law, Scott Barncord, of California.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Father Ty S. Hullinger as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
